Course Offer
The doctoral programme is structured to provide:
1) A solid theoretical and applied foundation in core disciplines (animal and plant
biology, microbiology, physiology, ecology, genetics, biostatistics, and bioinformatics)
and, depending on the specific choices of doctoral candidates, in more specialized
fields (neuroscience, behavioral biology, ethology, molecular evolution, and applied
plant biology in morphological-functional, environmental, agro-industrial,
pharmaceutical, and cultural heritage conservation contexts).
2) Opportunities for internships at Italian and international research institutions, as
well as at public institutions in professional sectors, allowing students to apply the
methodologies and skills acquired during their research.
3) Tools and proficiency in drafting scientific reports and research proposals, as well
as in effective science communication.
The Academic Board determine each PhD project in each cycle and includes
disciplinary and interdisciplinary training activities as well as language, IT, and
statistical training. The programme also covers research management, knowledge of
European and international research systems, research valorization, and intellectual
property.
The teaching offer includes:
a) Courses on cross-disciplinary and complementary skills
b) Specialized courses for the doctoral program and/or each curriculum
c) Courses associated from other doctoral programmes
d) Participation in national and international workshops and postgraduate schools
e) Attendance at seminars and conferences
Teaching activities are primarily delivered during the first two years of the Ph.D.
programme. Courses are taught by faculty members from affiliated universities and
experts from research institutions with which there are scientific collaborations.
Doctoral candidates are encouraged to contact the course instructor for enrollment
and attendance.
Training Plan and Credits
Doctoral candidates must submit a training activity plan, listing the courses selected
for the entire duration of the Ph.D., amounting to a minimum of 30 credits. Of these,
at least 6 credits must be chosen from cross-disciplinary courses.

conferences, and workshops, subject to prior approval by the Academic Board.
